How To Use The Combo Gauge
Combo Gauge – The Combo Gauge is used for sizing inch and metric bolts, screws, drill bits & rivets. The Combo Gauge consists of these three different gauges assembled as one:
- Top gauge (red) is a rivet gauge for sizing pop rivets.
1. For sizing pop rivets from #3 to #8 diameters and blind threaded inserts from 6-32 to 3/8".
2. This tool also has a handy 5" ruler.
- Next gauge (white) is an internally threaded screw gauge.
1. This gauge is in inch and metric. You can actually screw fasteners into this gauge.
2. Size range is from #0 – ¾" coarse and fine thread, and the metric range is from 1.6mm to 16mm
3. The reverse side is a drill and tap gauge for the corresponding holes.
- Last gauge (blue) is the drill gauge.
1. Used to size drill bits in fractional or metric.
2. 7 1/2 " ruler
The combo gauge is made of sturdy plastic and is water, alcohol, oil & grease resistant. It spreads apart and closes back up to make it a very informative, but compact and user friendly reference tool.
HOW TO USE THE Combo GAUGE:
Please refer to the numbers on the reference chart
1 – Slide the body of the rivet into the corresponding slot it fits into. This will give you the diameter of the rivet. Then use the numbers to the right of the slot to give you the overall body length of the rivet you are sizing.
2 – Use the holes on the rivet gauge to the right to size the diameter of the rivet body.
3 – Use the holes across the bottom of the rivet gauge to size the diameter of blind threaded inserts.
4 – Use the internally threaded screw gauge to check the threads and determine what your fasteners is, weather it is inch or metric, coarse or fine thread. You can actually thread your fastener into this gauge for precise reference.
5 – Use the drill gauge to size drill bits in fractional or metric dimensions.
6 – The drill gauge also has a 7 ½" for measuring purposes.

Engineering components operation?
Hi everyone!
Can anyone help with the description of operation for the following components and how they are used?
1) Aluminium bolt fitted with a nylock nut
2) A stainless steel self tapping screw with countersunk head
3) copper snap head rivet
4) a domed head, open ended durlumin pop rivet

all of these are used to fasten a couple of things together.
aircraft requires high strength, light weight fasteners that will not unfasten from vibration.
when you can relax some requirements, you can get away with cheaper materials.
1. presumably a mechanic would like to be able to unfasten this
2. great for wood furniture
3. sometimes seen in clothing
4. probably aircraft
