How can I preserve a kiss mark (similar to a fingerprint smudge) on a picture frame cover?
My father recently passed away.
Before he died, he kissed a photo frame of my baby niece on the cheek. I found the frame recently and was surprised to see his kiss print is as visible as it was the day he kissed it (along with 2 finger prints from where he had held onto it).
I was wondering what is the best way to preserve this for my niece to see when she's older? My brother-in-law (father of my niece) has suggested a nitrogen-filled container similar to what's used to preserve baseballs.
I wasn't sure if nitrogen might alter the smudge, or if a custom plexiglas cover directly on the frame cover frame would be a better option?
Any experienced or amateur preservationists out there? Or simply someone who has had to preserve something similarly?

Nitrogen is completely inert. In fact, the original Declaration of Independence is stored in nitrogen. If you have the facilities to do that then you are golden.
The number one key in the mean time is to keep it away from people and other objects that can smear the smudge and if you must handle then use gloves. Careful.
