The role of stainless steel welding in different industries

There are a variety of techniques for stainless steel welding. The efficiency of each depends on many things like what type of stainless steel will be used, or how it will be applied and for what industry. There are three main industries that require effective application of welding stainless steel application.

The food service industry usually uses 300 series stainless steel. Facilities like cookery, shelving and counters are all made from properly welded stainless steel sheet metal. The codes of food industry usually require utilization of 304 stainless steel in their food preparation areas mostly because this type of metal does not rust easily. All the welds done in food service should be properly done in such a way that no bacteria or other microorganisms that can cause food contamination will be fenced.

Tig welding is most preferred since this process is best against slag and spatters. The tig welding that will be used should be 308L for welding 304 stainless. L stands for low carbon because this element is bad when it comes to the resistance of stainless to corrosion.

The aerospace is another industry that makes use of stainless steel welding. There is a wide variation of stainless steel alloys that are used in aviation and aerospace industry. The most common type are the austenitic steels like 321, 347, 316, and 304 but martensitic stainless grades like 410 steel , jethete m190 and Greek Ascoloy can also be used.

Tig welding and automated plasma welding are the welding techniques that are most preferred in this type of industry. Always be sure to use small amount of heat and use any ways to prevent damages. Also be sure to shield the back side of everything that is being welded with argon.

Nuclear piping systems make use of many stainless steel and most of which are tig welded. Basically, the stainless piping is 304 stainless but other grades like 316 can also be utilized.

Instrumentation lines that have a diameter of ½" or less are often done with orbital tig welding because it is highly repeatable.

These are only some of the many industries that utilize stainless steel welding. There are other ways in which this type of welding process can be used. It can also be applied to other home equipments like tables, kitchen counters and much other stuff that is normally made in stainless steel.
