What are three independent ways to make such as system redundant?
The 727 had manual reversion whereby, when hydraulic power was lost, control tabs unlocked which allowed the pilot to control the movement of the control surfaces by moving the control tab with the yoke. Seems to me that there were both A & B system servos, giving three levels of redundancy, but I've slept since then, so who knows.
The B757 uses all three hydraulic systems, each of which is independently pressurized (L & R 1 eng driven pump, and 1 elec pump, Center uses 2 elec pumps), each has its own servos providing inputs to each control surface (aileron, elevator, rudder). In a dual engine failure, where all of the above might be lost (spooling RPM might just power the hyd sys), then the RAT (Ram Air Turbine) auto deploys, and so long as the airframe maintains 130 Kts, then the center system is pressurized by the RAT. That is 4 levels of redundancy for this airplane.
