Engine Conversion

Acura Engine Conversions
An Acura Engine Conversion allows you to save thousands when you upgrade your Acura model. How do you go about doing one? In this article, we will look into how to get a higher-performing car by doing an engine conversion.
The first step is to decide on why you want to do it. Do you want more horsepower for regular motoring or because you are getting set for racing? Once you identify your main goal, you'll be able to identify the type of engine swap that will work best for you.
With your goal in mind, knowing what kind of power you want, order the parts you need for higher performance.
Also make sure that you have all the tools you need for installation. You will need an engine hoist, motor mounts, shift linkage, multiple sizes of wrenches from 12 mm to 17 mm, a tall jack, two or more jack stands, a blowtorch, and axles.
When your parts arrive, create a plan of action. Besides helping you create motivation to complete the project despite possible interruptions by your family, work, and lifestyle, a plan will help you to think out all the necessary steps before you even start. You want to stay on track and you don't want to wander what to do next. This is best accomplished by putting everything in place before you get going. A clear sense of direction is necessary for the success of your Acura Engine conversion.
After removing the factory engine from its casings, clean all the parts, then label them. The better your preparation, the easier the installation. Also, properly recycle the old engine parts, scrapping any corroded parts, cleaning and selling any good parts, and properly disposing, according to state laws, the fluids, broken pieces, and so on.
Install the new engine according to the guidelines that you should receive with your engine kit. Try to do this exactly. Once your new Acura engine is installed, top up all the necessary fluids like transmission fluid, oil, coolants, and washer fluids.
Your success depends on your level of mechanical skills, your ability to follow written directions, and on the engine itself. Some conversions are easy, others pose more of a challenge--for example, sometimes its difficult to remove the pin that holds the shift linkage to the transmission.
Here is a basic checklist that you can use as you go through with your Acura conversion:
I have chosen the best engine for my high performance needs.
I have ordered the engine parts.
I have organized all the tools I need.
I have written down a clear plan of action.
I have prepared the engine that I will install.
I have removed the previous engine.
I have properly labeled and disposed of the previous engine parts.
I have hoisted the new engine into the engine bay.
I have hooked up all the parts of the new engine.
I have refilled all the necessary fluids.
I have broken in the new engine over 500 miles before racing it.

It is preferable to get a new engine, but if for reasons of budget constraints you decide to do a swap with a used Acura engine, then check belts, and the alternator and clutch before installation.
