Crude Oil its Uses and Benefits
The earth has become a better place to live on thanks to the many discoveries of mankind which has very well improved the lifestyle of the modern man. There had been many breath taking discoveries and many precious metals and commodities have been excavated from mother earth till now.
Though most of these commodities like metals have been used for many industrial applications nothing can be compared when it come to the usefulness of crude oil. Indeed this has been the most valuable commodity that has been drilled out from earth and which has readily changed the lifestyle of human beings. In today's world anything we use for our daily purpose is indirectly linked to this precious commodity crude oil. In today's world the largest producers of this precious crude oil are the countries of Saudi Arabia, Russia and followed by United States of America. If we go deep into the chemistry of the crude oil, it can be said that it is made up of a hydrocarbon mixture. It is found as a liquid in its natural form and found within the formations of earth's crevices. The crude oil is otherwise called as petroleum and it has been found within the porous rock formations deep inside the earth due to the decomposition of the dead organic matter millions of years ago.
Once this crude oil is distilled then a variety of lubricants and petrochemicals are obtained from them. The crude oil that is drilled from the different locations of the earth is found to vary much in their density, viscosity and composition. This is the main reason that attributes to the variation of the quality of the crude oil obtained from the different countries.
The best quality crude oil till now has been concentrated in the Gulf countries and hence they are priced very high. Hence the Gulf countries have a high demand for their high quality crude oil. The drilling process for the crude oil is indeed a very tedious and time consuming process and it has been reported that the oil drillers drill as far deep as 6 miles into the earth's crust for pumping out this valuable fuel. Such an oil exploration costs the oil exploration and drilling companies millions of dollars each year. They do bear all these costs since they know very well that they will ultimately profit and overcome all these costs by selling the crude oil extracted from these oil reserves.
The most common uses of crude oil is that it is being put to use in the form of gasoline which is the fuel for the aircrafts, automobiles, heating oils and also for the generation of the electricity. Apart form this the byproducts that are obtained as a result of the distillation of the crude oil like paraffin wax, asphalt, sulfur and many others find their use in many chemical and industrial applications worldwide.

What will happen to air travel when the oil runs out?
When the oil inevitably runs out, what will happen to airplanes? I know it's hard to make an estimate, but lets say it were to run out in 20 years time, what will happen in regards to air travel? We have alternatives to cars that run on oil based fuels, electric cars being the most obvious... but have we considered alternatives to aircraft that run on fuel obtained from crude oil? Is there currently research into alternative jet fuels, or will we be left with no form of air travel?
The short answer is use coal. Since coal is a heavy fuel for the amount of energy contained then an oil derivative will need to be developed suitable for aircraft. There is tons of it about. Alternatively coal could be used to energise a reaction to produce hydrogen which could be used as a fuel. Rockets use neither coal nor hydrogen and look how far they travel.
